A COMMUNITY OF READERS
Grade 5 Summer Reading Guide
The Marblehead elementary summer reading lists are the collaborative effort of Marblehead Public Schools and the Abbot Public Library. They are designed to encourage students in Marblehead to read often and for enjoyment, which leads to a lifelong love of reading. Your support and involvement will enable your child to achieve this goal. Remember that reading aloud to your child is a great way to enjoy the many wonderful books that are available.Grades four, five, and six each have a Òrequired readÓ for incoming students. This will give new classmates something in common before they even walk through the door!  Children are also encouraged to read at least one other book from the recommended reading list.
To help you and your child choose appropriate books, we have included recommendations that include a wide range of reading levels and genres. All of the books are available at Abbot Library. To read summaries and student reviews of the books, please refer to our library website athttp://vil.marbleheadschools.org/library/
Each child is also required to bring to school a photograph that captures him/her reading a favorite book in a special spot. If a photograph is not possible, he/she may draw a picture of himself/herself instead.  What a great way to show that we are a community of readers!
As part of our community focus we encourage you to visit the Abbot Library often this summer to participate in their summer reading programs.
Have a great summer and
HAPPY READING!
