Principal's Corner

10/2009

Dear Village Community Members:

This is the first of frequent email updates that I will be sending out.  Thank you SO much to Peter Schalck of Flat Rock Studios and parent volunteer for putting this together!

Please click on the following link to do a quick learning styles questionnaire from North Carolina State University.  Don't worry about putting your name in the field at the top - that's just to personalize the results when you're finished:
When I first did a learning styles questionnaire many years ago, it helped me more than anything to understand that every student shows up with different strengths.  I think it would be fun and interesting for each person in the family to do it, and discuss the results!

Thank you to parent volunteer Mike Lane for coordinating the EDU opportunities.  He has worked hard to expand our offerings for the next trimester, but please contact me if you're interested in teaching once a week!  We will be sending home the new course offerings at EDU the week of the 15th of November, with new classes beginning December 1st.

As is typical this time of year, some best intentions can sometimes begin to falter!  Please remember that the parking on the access road is less than ideal for everyone, but we need to keep safety as the top priority.  Please do not park in the bus lanes.  Further, when parking to pick up or drop off, please pull up to 'the back of the line' at the curb - there may very well be better parking further down, but maybe not.  Either way, as the weather turns into winter weather, there are kids moving more slowly and paying more attention to things other than your car.  THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

I'd also like everyone to get back to the great arrival time habit that we had in the first few weeks; we're beginning to stack up tardies!  I have a 5 year old, and 8 year old; I know what it means to get it all together by 8am!  It is EXTREMELY helpful in building school community for everyone to be on time!

For Halloween, we invite children (and grown-ups!) to dress up for Friday, the 30th.  The rules are: no masks, face paint, or fake weapons!

Finally, a dress up day we're even more excited about: PLEASE HELP YOUR CHILD DRESS IN RED FOR RESPECT ON FRIDAY, as part of our We not Me program at Village School!

As always, please write or call with any questions or concerns - happy fall!

Michael Hanna
