Library News
1/5/09 HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Our temporary library is up and running! The library will be open until 3:00 for homework club on Monday, Thursday and Friday. Please pick up students at the Gym entrance after homework club.
During the next few months, 5th grade students will be exploring how historians use primary sources to learn about Jamestown. We'll also discuss historical fiction and Washinton Irving. Next students will nominate and research candidates for our second annual Early American Idol contest. Finally I hope to kick off a Village School History project in which 5th graders use a variety of resources to find out about and document the history of our school!
4th Graders are begining a unit on Canada in which we explore our neighbors to the North using a variety of print and electronic resources. We will be reading stories that take place in Canada and choosing a subject of interest to investigate. We'll also create questions about Canada for the 5th graders to see how much they remember from last year!
As always, students will have time during each library class to select books to read for pleasure!
11/15/08 Many thanks to the PTO for donating proceeds from the recent book fair to the Library. Village School students are already enjoying the many excellent books we were able to purchase for our collection. As always, the library appreciates the hard work and support of the PTO.
Sixth Grade "Picture This" Project Update
During library classes in November, 6th grade students are gathering and evaluating information for their
"Picture This" projects.
Notecards and Resource Evaluation sheets are due on December 1, 2008.
In December students will be responsible for creating their books at home. Bibliographies will be created during December library classes.
Final projects are due December 19th.
10/15/08 Sixth grade students have begun exploring print resources for their Picture This books. Please make sure all students have the required project supplies.
